State of Minnesota: Emergency Executive Order 20-50

Posted on May 05 2020

As of today, as a result of Executive Order 20-50 issued yesterday by Governor Walz, Minnesota consumers will be protected against bank garnishments of their stimulus payments (designated as exempt government funds under Minn. Stat. 550.37) and, for the duration of the emergency, from all other garnishments. “Domestic orders” such as child support payments, are exempt from the order.

ILCM signed on to a letter from legal services providers requesting this action. We’re thankful for the governor’s leadership.
