Title: IT & Volunteer Engagement Intern
Position Type: Unpaid volunteer position. 10–15 hours per week commitment.
Location: Flexible work environment with hybrid and in-office options. This position should be based in St. Paul/Minneapolis due to occasional in-person travel to our office in St. Paul. Flexible scheduling is available within regular business hours (Monday–Friday), with work hours coordinated between the intern and the People Operations Manager based on organizational needs and the intern's availability.
Introduction: This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting both information technology operations and volunteer engagement within a mission-driven nonprofit organization. Working closely with the People Operations Manager, the intern will develop practical skills in technology support, nonprofit administration, project coordination, and volunteer management while contributing to programs that serve immigrants and refugees across Minnesota and North Dakota. This role offers meaningful exposure to day-to-day organizational operations and an opportunity to build transferable professional skills in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Primary Responsibilities IT Support
- The intern will assist with a variety of technology-related activities that help ensure staff members have the tools and resources needed to perform their work effectively.
- Assist with the setup, configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting of laptops, workstations, mobile devices, and other technology equipment for staff.
- Support employee onboarding and offboarding processes by preparing, organizing, and collecting technology equipment and related resources.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of computers, peripherals, software licenses, and other organizational technology assets.
- Update and maintain technology-related rosters, user records, and operational documentation.
- Provide basic technical support and respond to routine staff technology requests under the guidance of the People Operations Manager.
- Research technology tools, resources, and best practices to support organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
Volunteer Coordination Support
- The intern will support volunteer engagement efforts by assisting with administrative processes, record management, volunteer communications, and program coordination activities.
- Maintain accurate volunteer records, databases, and documentation to support program compliance and reporting needs.
- Coordinate interpretation, translation, and paid language service requests to support communication needs, client services, and organizational materials.
- Help track volunteer participation and support data collection efforts for program evaluation and reporting.
- Collaborate with staff across departments to identify volunteer support needs and help facilitate appropriate volunteer assignments.
- Perform other administrative and operational duties as assigned.
Qualifications | Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to commit to the internship for at least six months is strongly preferred.
- No specific educational background is required, though high school diploma or equivalent is required. College students, recent graduates, career changers, and non-students are all encouraged to apply.
- Interest in information technology, nonprofit operations, volunteer engagement, or human resources.
- Fluency in English.
- Experience troubleshooting basic computer hardware, software, or printer issues.
- Experience working or volunteering in a nonprofit or community-based organization.
- Experience using office equipment such as printers, scanners, and copiers.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Office 365, SharePoint Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move computer equipment or office equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
- Passion for serving low-income immigrant and refugee communities and working with people from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
